Grant funding is an important way for us to develop our services. It provides us with the necessary funding to help us to develop innovative approaches to the complex lives of the people we work with.
Charitable Trusts and Foundations
Funding from charitable trusts and foundations has enabled us to develop and test new ideas for services. Many of these have then enabled us to secure longer term funding to ensure the continuity of service delivery. Other grants fund specific activities or the core costs of the charity. All of which are vital to enable us to continue providing services to vulnerable and isolated people and communities.
Comic Relief is currently funding our Young Persons Mental Health Service. Their support has enabled us to develop this new service, which is proving vital in helping young people access the health care they need. It has helped to ensure we have the expertise necessary to assess a young persons mental health needs and quickly access and refer into the most appropriate services for that person. Without the support of Comic Relief we would not have this service.
Corporate Trusts
An increasing number of companies have established their own corporate trust to manage their support to charities. This again is an important source of funding for us and helps us to develop partnerships with the business community.
We recently received funding from the Vodafone Foundation to provide an Accommodation Fund for young people to enable us to provide emergency accommodation through bed and breakfasts or access the private rented sector for more permanent move-on accommodation.
Statutory
Local and national statutory agencies are also another source of income that enables us to access funds for specific developments and activities within our main services. Statutory grants tend to fund one-off initiatives that otherwise we would not be able to do.
We have recently been awarded funds from Canterbury City Council’s Single Grants Gateway initiative for development of activities at our Young Persons Direct Access hostel. This grant will enable us to provide a range of initiatives in this current year, which otherwise would not happen.
Our funding partnerships make a real difference to our work and the lives of the people we support. If you would like to find out more about how a grant from your organisation could help develop our services, please contact Lisa Oeder Head of Development and Communications or tel. 01227 760078
