Staff and service users from homelessness charity Porchlight were presented with a cheque for £4500 on behalf of the St. Nicholas Festival in the grounds of Canterbury Cathedral today (18/04/2011).

The money will go towards activities and life skills for young people at the charity. Two service users from Porchlight’s young person’s project had the chance to meet the St. Nicholas Festival patron and wife of the Archbishop of Canterbury Jane Williams whilst taking a tour of the Old Palace building.

Lisa Oeder, Head of Fundraising at Porchlight (pictured 2nd from left) said: “We are so grateful to the St. Nicholas Festival for the kind donation. Building the skills necessary for independent living as well as confidence in our service users is an integral part of our work. The donation will go a long way towards doing that for many vulnerable young people right here in Canterbury.”

Notes to the editor:

St. Nicholas Festival in Canterbury was founded in 2001 to increase awareness of the life, history and traditions relating to St. Nicholas and to raise money in aid of organisations that benefit children and young people, both locally and further afield.
