Kent based homelessness charity Porchlight has recently been recognised for helping to improve society through its services for vulnerable people by receiving the prestigious Social Enterprise Mark.

Chief Executive, Mike Barrett said: “The current financial climate that charities find themselves in means that it is more important than ever that we are recognised as part of the solution to the problems in our society. Receiving the Social Enterprise Mark is a great honour and the independent certification is a testament to our continuing dedication to support the most vulnerable members of our community.”
Porchlight provides supported accommodation, street outreach and homelessness prevention services across the county. The charity works to change the lives of homeless and vulnerable people with a focus on helping them achieve to independence and contribute to their local community through returning to work, entering education or taking up volunteering opportunities. Last year the charity made a positive difference to the lives of more than 2,300 people.
The Government defines social enterprises as “businesses with primarily social objectives whose surpluses are principally reinvested for that purpose in the business or in the community.” As a registered charity, Porchlight works to support the vulnerable and homeless within the community of Kent. Porchlight is commissioned to deliver many of these services on behalf of Kent County Council and the local districts and boroughs, and being a recognised social enterprise will enable the charity to secure contracts in a highly competitive environment.
