We’re calling on political parties to end rough sleeping
28 April 2017
Ahead of the general election in June, we’re joining with other homelessness charities to call on all political parties to pledge an end to rough sleeping.
We want them to commit to an ambitious initiative that will reverse the huge rise in rough sleeping.
“The numbers of people that are now facing the misery of life on the streets is nothing short of a national scandal,” said Porchlight’s CEO Mike Barrett. “It is crucial that all political parties put it firmly at the top of their agenda and take effective action to end homelessness – for good.”
The rough sleeper initiative will act to end homelessness by:
- Preventing people sleeping rough in the first place
- Providing a robust response to get people off the streets
- Ensuring that people do not return to rough sleeping.
We're asking Theresa May, Jeremy Corbyn and Tim Farron to show their official commitment in their election manifestos. You can show your support for the campaign here or share our social media posts with the hashtag #endroughsleeping
