Access to the private rented sector

Welfare changes and the lack of social housing have made it increasingly difficult for our beneficiaries to access affordable independent accommodation when they move on from our services.

The private rented sector is the only realistic housing option, but many private rented sector landlords are reluctant to give tenancies to people on low wages or in receipt of welfare benefits.

Our team act as a link between people who have been supported in our accommodation and private landlords with suitable property to let. We carefully select prospective tenants and provide them with training on their responsibilities. Once housed, we also offer ongoing support to both landlords and tenants to make sure that the tenancies run smoothly.

Our longer-term strategy to create more access to private rented sector housing includes the establishment of a social lettings agency which is currently under development, thanks to funding from the Oak Foundation.
