Help make a place feel like home

Donated furniture, bedding and clothes can help make a place feel like a home for people moving into accommodation after homelessness.

Items we need

  • Clothing
  • Bedding, quilts, pillows or sheets
  • White goods in full working order
  • Plates and cutlery
  • Kettles
  • Toasters
  • Beds and mattresses together (must have fire label)
  • Small wardrobes
  • Storage furniture such as cupboards, drawers
  • Sofas (must have fire label)

Items we can't accept

  • Underwear or swimwear
  • Very large wardrobes
  • Any items without fire labels
  • Any items that are broken, ripped or dirty

All items must be in good working condition. We cannot accept anything ripped, broken or stained. This is because we need to make sure the items will be useful for the people we are supporting, and will make them feel comfortable in their new home.

Where we operate

As we are a small team and arranging transport takes time and can be costly, so if possible we really appreciate it if you are able to deliver items yourself. Where this is not possible we can arrange transport. We currently have three areas around Kent where we are able to accept donations: Thanet, Canterbury and Dover.

How to donate

To let us know about any items you would like to donate, please take photos and email them to along with information about where your items are based, and whether you are able to deliver them or not.

Someone from the team will then get in touch with you. If we send someone to pick up your items, please ask to see their Porchlight staff ID badge before handing them over.
