Thousands of people in Kent are in urgent need

Give hope this Christmas

The effect of the pandemic means thousands more people in Kent now face the terrifying prospect of being homeless this Christmas.

Living on the streets makes you feel hopeless, especially at Christmas. I spent two horrendous winters living in a tent.

Ben's story: 'My life was on track, but when our house had to be sold to pay for my mum’s care I was left with nothing.

'When Porchlight found me, everything felt hopeless. But they didn’t give up – not just giving me a roof over my head but helping me learn to trust people again.

'On Christmas Day, the staff organised a meal for Porchlight residents, with thoughtful presents for everyone. I felt cared for as a human being and ready to make a change.' Read more.

9,300 in Kent face homelessness this Christmas

We're bracing ourselves for the most difficult winter on record

5.5 million in the UK face poverty

Christmas should be a time for friends and family, food and warmth. Thanks to your support, our frontline teams are here offering people in Kent a lifeline. They bring hope and help to people who are forced to sleep rough, or face losing their homes.

But there's so much more to do. Lockdown safety nets that helped the poorest people in our communities keep a roof over their heads have been ripped away.

Relationships are breaking down. Families are falling apart. People’s mental health is suffering. The number of people needing our help has risen steeply, and we're bracing ourselves for worse.
