Leaving a gift to Porchlight
Although we have partnered with Octopus Legacy who can provide our supporters with a free Will, when writing or updating your Will, we always recommend you speak to a Solicitor or other Will-writing professional. You can do this by referring to the Law Society Home | The Law Society.
Should you decide to leave a gift to Porchlight, your solicitor or Will-writing professional can advise you on the appropriate wording. However, you will need our charity name, address and registered charity number, which we have included:

Do I have enough to leave a legacy?
Of course, your loved ones should always come first, but any gift that you leave to Porchlight will make a difference. A gift of even 1% could create a future where homelessness is a thing of the past.
Can I specify which part of Porchlight I would like to support with my legacy?
Yes. If you would like your gift to be used to support a particular area of Porchlights work we will honour this. If you are planning to leave a legacy for a specific part of Porchlight’s work, we would be delighted to discuss this with you so that we can fully understand your wishes and ensure that your gift is used appropriately.
Do I have to let Porchlight know if I am leaving a legacy?
If you intend to leave a gift to Porchlight, we would very much like to hear from you so we can thank you. You can let us know by completing a legacy pledge form. This is not a legally binding document, it simply enables us to thank you, and to communicate with you appropriately in the future. There is no obligation for you to tell us any of your details of your legacy, although this can help us ensure your gift is directed according to your wishes.
Are there any tax benefits to leaving a legacy to Porchlight?
Lots of people worry about Inheritance Tax but the good news is that leaving a gift to charity in your Will can help reduce, or even remove, the tax burden on your estate. Your legal advisor will be able to help explain how the Inheritance Tax rules apply to you and your particular circumstances.
