Fundraising from home

Fundraising ideas you can do while in lockdown

Coronavirus means that events like sponsored runs and fundraising galas are off the menu for a while. But it doesn’t mean that you can’t still get together virtually to do something fun and raise money for a great cause.

Most of our fundraising activities – which support our essential services – have had to stop. At the same time demand for our services have gone up as more people are worried about losing their jobs and homes. There has never been a more important time to fundraise for Porchlight.

Ideas for fundraising at home

Sponsored read

You can’t go out on your own adventures just yet but reading books can take you to exciting places too. Get sponsored to read one book every day for one week and you’ll help us to help people rewrite their life stories.

Exercise challenge

Exercise is great for both mental and physical health so push your boundaries and challenge yourself. You could run the equivalent of a marathon in one week, practice 100 sun salutations or cycle the length of the Kent Coast (350 miles!)

Virtual quizzing

Get your family, friends or colleagues online for a virtual quiz. There are loads of video platforms you can use to do this for free, and you can either create your own quiz or use a readymade one online.

Donate your lockdown savings

If you’re not feeling the fundraising but want to help you could always donate the money you’ve saved from your commute or what you’d usually spend on your daily coffee or lunch.

Tips for fundraising at home

Once you’ve decided on the fundraising you want to do getting started couldn’t be easier.

  • Set up a JustGiving page. Make sure you add a photo of you and write a little bit about your fundraising and what inspired you to do it for Porchlight. And don't forget to add a target to your page so friends and family can help you reach it.
  • Get sharing! Show all your friends and family what you are doing and how they can get involved. You can even set extra challenges “If I raise £500 I’ll do...”
  • Take pictures and update your supporters on how your fundraising is going on your JustGiving page and social media. You can tag us in anything you post on social media too by using @porchlight1974

Lockdown for me is manageable but this is so far from what’s happening with the vulnerable clients who the frontline staff at Porchlight are supporting.

This is my way of being proactive and helping this charity to survive.
