Homelessness outreach volunteer

Help people who are homeless to leave the streets behind

Role available in Dartford

You'll be part of our outreach team, helping people who are sleeping rough into suitable accommodation and connecting them with support for any other problems they are facing.

You will mainly be based at our Porchlight drop-in clinic, where people experiencing homelessness can go to get support. You'll make people feel welcome, get to understand their needs, help them feel comfortable taking part in any assessments that are needed, provide assistance with filling out forms (if needed) and make referrals to any support services they will benefit from.

You may also attend street outreach sessions from time to time. These involve going out to find people who are living on the streets and giving them the support they need to stay safe and get housed.

Doing all of this will often require you and your teammates to work closely with the local council.

This role is perfect for someone who wants to help others. If you’re passionate about helping people get to where they want to be in life, we want to hear from you.

What we need from you

  • No experience is required, but you must feel strongly about helping people sleeping rough to escape the streets and rebuild their lives
  • An awareness of the problems homeless people face is beneficial
  • We ask that volunteers undergo some training (provided by Porchlight)
  • Two references will be required and a DBS check will be undertaken
  • An enhanced DBS check will be sought

Where

  • Dartford (Thursday mornings)
