Keep our team on the streets
Porchlight’s rough sleeper team is a lifeline for street homeless people in Kent, and it’s the only service of its kind. For six years we've helped thousands of people but our service is struggling with ongoing cuts to funding and there is just a small team of Porchlight staff to cover the whole county.
There is simply no emergency housing for single people, and being forced to sleep rough puts people at risk of injury, illness and even premature death. The longer people are on the streets, the more harm they will come to.
A phone call from Porchlight saved my life.
Last year Dan was living on the streets. “It was November and I knew how much colder it was going to get and I just couldn’t face it,” he says. “Christmas was around the corner, and I didn’t see the point of carrying on. I wanted to end it all.”
Dan received a call from us telling him the news that he had a room in one of our hostels. When he arrived, he found he’d been assigned a self-contained flat. “I cried when I saw it,” he remembers. “I just couldn’t believe it.” Read more of Dan's story here.
