Government eviction ban extended a month

It will run until September 20

The government eviction ban has been extended for another month.

The ban, which prevents renters from being evicted during the coronavirus pandemic, will now run until September 20.

This is welcome news for many people in Kent who would have otherwise been made homeless during this crisis.

But the ban must be extended beyond September 20 and continue until the government clarifies exactly how renters will be protected from eviction.

We need to see legal protections put in place where landlords negotiate payment plans with tenants who need some time to get back on their feet. And although those legal protections do not currently exist, we encourage landlords to do the right thing and start working with their tenants now.
