"I feel I’m doing my bit"

I was first introduced to Porchlight through the Canterbury City Football Club. Inspired by the charity’s work, I decided that the best way for me to help was to volunteer as an ambassador.
Having done a Masters in Child Care Law, I’ve seen a lot of people’s lives destroyed because they were let down by the system. This is probably why I feel so passionate about Porchlight and homelessness because I understand that there’s always a reason why someone ends up in their situation. I want to start to change people’s perceptions and help them appreciate the complexities of the issue.
It’s not always easy – it can be challenging to even start a conversation because many think that homeless people are undeserving. But perseverance can pay off and when I succeed, I feel I’ve done my little bit to help. Of course, there are some personal benefits too - I really enjoy what I do and by becoming more involved in the community, I hope I’m dispelling some of the stereotypes about solicitors being an elitist profession.
Robinsons is signed up as a Porchlight employability sponsor which means we provide funding for the charity’s jobs, education and training team. It seems a relatively small contribution to make such a huge difference and my aim for the future is to get many more companies on board in support of homeless and vulnerable people.
Are you good at networking?
Could you help open doors for Porchlight as one of our corporate ambassadors?
Our Corporate Ambassador Group is made up of leading business people who raise the profile of Porchlight amongst their networks to help us secure further funding.
Becoming a corporate ambassador is a great way to get involved with Porchlight and you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing that you’re making a vital difference to our work supporting homeless and vulnerable people in Kent.
If you, or any friends in your network, would be interested in supporting the charity in this way, please contact Kate Boulding on 01227 813199. Thank you!
