Making a difference: what it's like to have us as your charity of the year
18 October 2017
Cycling, running, rowing, trekking… these are just some of the challenges James Villa Holidays staff have faced at work this year to help us tackle homelessness.
We’re the holiday firm’s charity of the year, meaning that the James Villa team is carrying out 12 months of fundraising activities for us.
So far, they’ve taken part in:
- Fancy dress days (American and travel-themed)
- the KM Bike Ride (a 50km or 100km cycle)
- the London Marathon
- the KM Dragon Boat Race (a team rowing challenge)
- the KM Colour Run (a 5km run where you have to contend with colour cannons)
- and the South Coast Challenge (a 100km walk).
The team has already raised more than £4,475 to help us support homeless and vulnerable people, and there are plenty more fundraising challenges to come.
“Everyone around the office has loved getting involved with fundraising and donating for such an amazing charity. We’ve held bake sales and fancy dress days, and taken part in fun runs, boat races and the marathon – we just can’t seem to stop. Knowing that all our hard work is going to such a good cause makes it all worth it.” – Bethan Evans, James Villas brand executive
We've been helping the James Villa team to learn about homlessness. We gave them a talk about the work Porchlight does and one of our residents came along to speak about the realities of life on the streets.
Are you interested in having Porchlight as your workplace's charity of the year? It's a great way of making a difference in the community whilst also uniting the staff around supporting homelessness in your area.
