Porchlight screens service users for Asda recruitment

A screening session for Asda recruitment took place at our head office today. Four service users travelled from across the county to be assessed for interview with the supermarket chain.
Mark Pinkney, our employment coordinator, explained the process. “Today was the first stage screening which involves some group activity, including discussion on positive character traits and what an employer like Asda might expect from its staff.
“We try to make the experience as much like a real job interview as possible so participants are expected to turn up on time, smartly dressed and to fully engage with the process.
“Many of our service users have never been to an interview before so it’s natural that they feel very nervous or apprehensive. Our aim is to reduce the fear of the unknown by providing a supportive but realistic experience to help boost people’s confidence and give them the best possible chance of gaining paid employment.”
Anyone identified as currently unsuitable for interview is offered further support through voluntary work placements. Three of today’s participants have been selected for the next stage – a Magic training day at Asda in Canterbury – so watch this space for more news!
