Porchlight is working with Street Games

We’ve teamed up with Street Games to train Porchlight residents as youth sports coaches.

Eight people are learning how to deliver sports sessions for young people who may not otherwise have access to these types of opportunities.

Street Games’ Training Academy is working with us to deliver the ‘Activator Workshops’.

The aim is to boost people’s job prospects while also improving their mental health. Regular physical exercise is known to benefit people’s mood, happiness and confidence.

Porchlight already runs weekly Street Games sessions in various communities. Now, residents can join our staff to help deliver these activities.

“Getting someone involved in sport can often lead to longer lasting and more significant change in their lives," explains Porchlight's jobs, education & training manager Richard Barnard.

"Once they realise what they’re able to achieve on the pitch, the begin believing in themselves. This is important because, in many cases, others haven’t believed in them. This positivity is crucial to the process of change.”

The Street Games ‘Activator Workshops’ have been developed in partnership with National Governing Bodies of Sport.
