We've been awarded £6,000 for our employment scheme
12 September 2017
Our work helping homeless people rebuild their lives has received a generous boost from the Freemasons.
They awarded us £6,000 as part of the Masonic Charitable Foundation Community Awards. It will help fund our award-winning Workwise scheme which helps homeless people find employment.
Porchlight was one of several charities to be nominated by Freemasons in East Kent, with local people voting to decide how much money we would receive.
"This is great news for our Workwise scheme which is proven to help people," said Porchlight's Matt Witts.
"At Porchlight, we know employment is the best route out of poverty and breaking the cycle of homelessness. The vast majority of our service users want to find work, but a lack of recent work experience or relevant skills can be a real barrier to doing so - which is where we come in.
"Thank you to the Freemasons and everybody who voted for helping to give homeless and vulnerable people a chance to move towards independence."
The Masonic Charitable Foundation Community Awards are a major part of Freemasonry’s 300th anniversary celebrations.
