Volunteering opportunities

 

Porchlight is always looking for volunteers to help support our work. To apply for a volunteering role, please fill out a volunteer application form and email it to volunteer@porchlight.org.uk.

Inductions and training will be provided before you begin and some roles may require you to have a DBS check. If you have any questions, contact us via email or call 01227 760078.

Outreach volunteer

Do you want to support people who are sleeping rough? We need volunteers to work alongside our experienced outreach staff. Roles are available in Dartford, Gravesham, Maidstone, Swale and Tonbridge. 

Administration support volunteer

We need someone with computer and administration skills to join our Family Support team. You’ll be based in our Dover office, helping refer people into the scheme (providing practical and emotional support to families). 

LGBT+ mentor

This role is for The BeYou Project -  a service for young people identifying as LGBT+ (who can struggle with their mental health & wellbeing). As a mentor, you'll be supporting them and also running activities which are geared towards supporting the LGBT+ community. 

Mental health housing support volunteer

The role is about preventing people with mental health needs from becoming homeless. You will be out in the community, giving support and guidance to vulnerable people. You could also end up helping those with rent arrears, experiencing anti-social behaviour or harassment, or who are in insecure or unsettled housing. 

Supported accommodation volunteer

You’ll be based in one of our homeless hostels. The role involves offering support, guidance, motivation and encouragement to our residents, all of whom are looking to regain their independence and leave homelessness behind for good. We have a range of hostels for people with different support needs (ranging from low to high) and of different ages (young people and over-25s). 

Community accommodation volunteer

You’ll be mentoring people in the community who are facing issues with finding or maintaining accommodation. This can include working with them to overcome personal problems, coming up with coping strategies for difficult situations, helping them complete paperwork or set up bills and more. 

HeadStart volunteer mentor

You'll be one of our trained volunteer mentors give children and young people (aged 10-16) the support and skills to cope with adversity and do well at school and in life. 

Community inclusion and mentoring volunteer

Help (sometimes vulnerable) adults who are feeling isolated to engage in new activities and become more involved with their local community. You could help someone simply by accompanying them to the gym, supermarket, park, community centre or an appointment. Find out more:
