Porchlight is always looking for volunteers to help support homeless and vulnerable people. Here are our current volunteering opportunities (inductions and training will be provided before you begin and some roles may require you to have a DBS check).
Advice and information volunteer
You’ll be taking calls from people who are seeking advice and guidance about homelessness and other issues. The role also involves add callers’ details to our database and liaising between the people we support, Porchlight staff and other agencies.
Do you enjoy physical activity, cooking or craft-related activities? Are you willing to share your skills to help our service users to become more active or learn new skills? If the answer is yes, we want you to join our Jobs, Education and Training team.
Mental health housing support volunteer
The role is about preventing people with mental health needs from becoming homeless. You will be out in the community, giving support and guidance to vulnerable people. You could also end up helping those with rent arrears, experiencing anti-social behaviour or harassment, or who are in insecure or unsettled housing.
Supported accommodation volunteer
You’ll be based in one of our homeless hostels. The role involves offering support, guidance, motivation and encouragement to our residents, all of whom are looking to regain their independence and leave homelessness behind for good. We have a range of hostels for people with different support needs (ranging from low to high) and of different ages (young people and over-25s).
Community accommodation volunteer
You’ll be mentoring people in the community who are facing issues with finding or maintaining accommodation. This can include working with them to overcome personal problems, coming up with coping strategies for difficult situations, helping them complete paperwork or set up bills and more.
HeadStart volunteer mentor
You'll be one of our trained volunteer mentors give children and young people (aged 10-16) the support and skills to cope with adversity and do well at school and in life.
Community inclusion and mentoring volunteer
Help (sometimes vulnerable) adults who are feeling isolated to engage in new activities and become more involved with their local community. You could help someone simply by accompanying them to the gym, supermarket, park, community centre or an appointment. Find out more:
