Romanian interpreter volunteer (home-based)

Can you provide interpretation services for our Romanian clients?

We're looking for a someone who can be an over-the-phone interpreter for Romanian people who are homeless and have limited English.

You'd be working with our homelessness outreach team who occasionally require help interpreting Romanian clients. You'll be someone they can phone to help both parties understand each other.

As an interpreter, you'll be ensuring Porchlight fully understands their situation and they're aware of the support that's available and how to access it. We will provide you with a phone and will only ever contact you from a Porchlight staff member's phone.

This volunteering opportunity comes off the back of a similar role aimed Polish clients.

What we need from you

  • The ability to speak and interpret Romanian
  • Good communication skills
  • A desire to help people who are homeless
  • An awareness of the problems they face
  • Two references will be required

Where and when

  • You can carry out this role from home or another location of your choice (although it's important the calls are not overheard
  • There's not a set time when we'll need your support - we would contact you when interpretation services are required (although we'll work with you to determine what times you're willing to be contactable)
  • We estimate that that your interpretation skills would only be needed on an intermittent basis
