Introducing our new chief executive Tom Neumark

He brings 20 years of homelessness, mental health and community development experience

Porchlight will be welcoming a new chief executive, Tom Neumark, at the end of October.

Tom has worked in homelessness, mental health and community development for nearly 20 years – for larger organisations like Porchlight, and for smaller ones too.

As someone who supports our work, Tom wanted to share this message.

Porchlight has a rich 50-year history. It’s made up of a diverse community of supporters, volunteers, frontline staff and partners, all spread across different locations, supporting in a range of ways. It is already clear to me that there is a lot that unites you – not least the passion to ensure everyone has someone on their side when life gets tough.

“We clearly face some big challenges as a community. Poverty, health and housing injustice are complex problems affecting millions of lives. That said, I believe there are solutions. I am ready to highlight these issues and help find the long-term solutions we need to create lasting change.

I’m looking forward to being part of the Porchlight community.

Tom started out as a housing officer and has also been an area manager, director and, most recently, CEO of a large day centre in southeast London.

He worked on the Hammersmith and Fulham Rough Sleeping Commission, which led to a dramatic decrease in the number of people sleeping on the streets. He’s also a trustee at the charity Justlife which advocates for people who are living in temporary accommodation.

Tom has already met Porchlight clients, volunteers and staff who recognised his commitment to our vision of a safe home, better life and fairer future for everyone. We’re looking forward to giving him a warm welcome when he officially starts in a few weeks.
