Porchlight is turning 50 but we're not celebrating
Many people on the streets don't reach that age
Porchlight is turning 50, but we’re not celebrating.
Not whilst the average age of death for people living on the streets is 45 for men and just 43 for women.
Instead, we're taking to the streets of Kent with a campaign that highlights the life-threatening challenges faced by people we support.
Starting today (World Homeless Day), we're taking an installation of six tents across the county. They display uncomfortable but important messages about the fact that people living on the streets are unlikely to reach their 50th birthday.
The tents will be appearing at:
- Canterbury, Whitefriars: Thursday 10 and Friday 11 October
- Rochester Cathedral: Wednesday 16 October
- Ashford, bandstand: Wednesday 23 to Friday 25 October
- Margate, Main Sands: Tuesday 29 and Wednesday 30 October
- Folkestone, Harbour Arm: Thursday 31 October
- Tunbridge Wells, Royal Victoria Place Wednesday 6 and Thursday 7 November
- Faversham, Macknade: Friday 15 and Saturday 16 November
- Canterbury Cathedral: Monday 25 to Thursday 28 November
Please help us make as much noise about this as possible. You can help by sharing the details of our campaign with your friends and family, and by looking out for posts on our social media accounts.
This is a crisis that we need to shine a light on.
Homelessness is at an all-time high, demand for mental health services is on the rise and more people are being pushed into poverty.
We’re incredibly proud of everything Porchlight has achieved over the past five decades, thanks to you. But we need your help to spread the word that everybody deserves to celebrate their 50th birthday and until they can, we won’t celebrate ours.
Help someone reach 50
Everyone living on the streets should get the chance to celebrate their 50th birthday.
