Porchlight’s work with churches during Lent

I’m Mim, one of Porchlight’s fundraisers, and one of the greatest privileges of my role is visiting churches and sharing more about our work.

During Lent, the 40 days of reflection leading up to Easter, we offer churches the opportunity to host a speaker, either to introduce our charity to those less familiar with us, or to share updates on the work happening across Kent.

This year, the team has already visited seven churches, with several more invitations still to fulfil after Easter. The welcome is always warm, generous and encouraging. We know we are among friends.

Churches continue to play an important role in our mission to relieve poverty and inequality. Many food banks operate from church buildings, and several of our drop-in services are based there too.

Their support goes far beyond providing space. Churches give regularly, advocate for our work, and pray for our teams and the people we support.

That partnership, which is practical, financial and spiritual, makes a real difference, especially for people facing homelessness, isolation or hardship.

Being able to thank people in person for that support has felt especially meaningful this Lent.
