Supreme Court rules on whether trans people can be excluded from women-only spaces and services

Our response

Yesterday, the Supreme Court ruled on whether trans people can be excluded from women-only spaces and services.

We know this might have caused distress, particularly to anybody who is trans. Please know that Porchlight stands in solidarity with you.

This ruling won’t change your ability to get help from our BeYou service for LGBTQ+ young people or any other Porchlight service.

There will be lots of media commentary that’s likely to deliberately overstate the impact this decision will have on people who are trans. Please remember that gender reassignment is still protected in law, meaning it’s illegal to discriminate against someone on the basis that they are trans.

We’re speaking to other organisations to understand the full implications of the ruling and will say more as soon as we’re able to.

Please take care of yourselves and each other.
