Michael's House: A legacy of love

Before Michael passed away, he and his wife Emma wanted to do something that would provide long-term support for others. In an extraordinary act of generosity, Michael and Emma embarked on donating a house to Porchlight - a place that will provide shelter and support for those experiencing homelessness.

Sadly, before we could find a suitable house, Michael passed away. But Emma was keen to fulfil Michael’s wish and continued the vital and generous journey of purchasing a house Porchlight.

Michael’s House, as it is now named, will offer a home to two people who are building a new future after experiencing the devastation of homelessness and support them as they leave the streets behind. We will also be able to accept clients with dogs, something we are not often able to do.

Michael’s House will be a valuable addition to our Housing First programme.

The Housing First model has been shown to be very effective in helping people with complex needs break the cycle of homelessness. It provides a stable and supportive foundation for people to address other challenges they may be facing such as mental ill health, substance misuse or unemployment.

With secure accommodation and wraparound support people will, in their own time, start to recover and make positive choices about how they live their life, leading to lasting change and long-term independence.

Next week we will welcome the first two clients into Michael’s House, marking the beginning of a new chapter in their lives. This incredible gift from Michael and Emma, ensures that Micheal’s legacy of kindness lives on, offering comfort and security to those who need it most.

We were deeply moved by Michael and Emma's generosity and their desire to make a difference in the lives of others. Michael’s House will be a lasting tribute to Michael and will provide support to people who have experienced unimaginable trauma and hardship.
