Make a difference this Summer

Simple fundraising ideas for the Summer holidays

Make the most of the long summer days with fun family activities that keep the kids entertained while raising money to help Porchlight support people facing homelessness across Kent.

Whether you’re spending the holidays at home, heading to the park or getting together with friends and family, there are plenty of simple ways to fundraise.

Your little people can make a big difference.

1. Sleep out

Spend a night outdoors at home to raise money for Porchlight, with sponsorship from friends and family.

Pitch a tent, build a cardboard shelter or make a den from whatever you can find. Bring out the sleeping bags, snacks and torches and see if you can spend the whole night outside.

You could even use it as practice for our Big Sleep Out, or for the Kent Scouts Big Cardboard Sleepout.

Make sure children are supervised by an adult and choose somewhere safe and secure to spend the night.

2. Host a garden party

Get friends, family and neighbours together for an afternoon of games, homemade treats and summer fun.

Set up a cake stall, serve cold drinks or organise simple garden games. You could ask for a small donation to come along, sell your homemade treats or hold a competition with a donation to enter.

No garden? A picnic or get-together in your local park can work just as well.

3. Organise a mini sports day

Bring back some classic sports day favourites at your local park or in the garden.

Try egg-and-spoon races, sack races, obstacle courses, skipping challenges or a family relay. Ask people to sponsor competitors or make a donation to take part.

You could even make medals or certificates for the winners.

If you’re using a public space, make sure you choose a safe area and check whether you need permission to hold your event.

4. Take on a summer challenge

Set yourself a summer challenge and ask friends and family to sponsor you.

You could walk a certain number of miles, complete a local route, cycle with your family or see how many swimming lengths you can manage.

Choose something that feels like a challenge but is still fun and achievable. You could complete it in one day or build towards your target across the summer holidays.

Getting Started

Fundraising is easier than ever. Here are a few tips to ensure your event runs smoothly:

  • Set up a JustGiving Page: Personalise your page with photos and stories to inspire donations.
  • Promote Your Event: Use social media to spread the word. Don’t forget to tag @porchlight1974 so we can support your efforts.
  • Keep It Fun: Update your supporters with photos and progress to keep them engaged and motivated.

Every pound raised helps Porchlight provide essential services for people giving them the support they need to rebuild their lives. This Christmas, let’s come together to create a brighter future for those who need it most.

We can provide you with branded collection tins, banners, leaflets and t-shirts to support your events and help you raise money and awareness of Porchlight.
