Independent evaluation of our Aspirations service

It's improving people's mental health and wellbeing

Our Aspirations service is making a difference to people who are isolated and struggling emotionally, an independent evaluation has found.

The Aspirations service uses arts, sports and training to support people with poor mental health who are unemployed and geographically or socially isolated.

It’s a Building Better Opportunities (BBO) project funded by the European Social Fund and the Lottery Community Fund.

An independent evaluation conducted by the University of Kent found that 76.6% of people supported by our Aspirations service reported an improvement in their mental health and wellbeing.

If someone is unemployed and feels that their mental health is a barrier to finding a job, the Aspirations team will help. At the time of the evaluation, 103 people had been helped into work.

We got [one of our participants] a volunteering job. Then three months later, she ended up working there. Now she has got a network of friends. You know, her whole life has turned around

Our Aspirations team work across Kent to improve the lives of disadvantaged people in our communities. We believe that real change can be made when you focus on the person and what they’re capable of instead of the issues they currently face.
